The teacher looked at me and said "Jeredeana, you should take care of your friends, look at her now she is injured." I looked into the teacher's face and answered "But teacher it's not my fault that she is injured. What was I suppose to do if she was the unlucky one." The teacher was full of shock that her jaw could drop at any moment. She stood still,trying to keep her posture. The teacher put a responsible face on but still keeping eye contact with me, "You were there with her, you should have help her." I gave her a dumb look and feeling like a moron while I try to ignore the gawking spectators outside the room. "Ms.Briggs I did help her" I stated, "if I didn't help her she would still be lying on the floor and would bleed to death!"
Ms.Briggs was really frustrated with my answer. "I know that Jeredeana," trying to control her voice from shouting. "but you should have tried to prevent it. It would have been a lot easier if you did and nobody would be injured." I looked her straight in the eyes "So you would rather let me be in the middle of the ramp trying to protect her?? Is that what you mean??". She gave a little smile and happily said "Yes! That would be very helpful if you did."
I was quite confounded with her unpleasing answer,so without any hesitation I gave her a smile and said "So you wanted me to protect her,that would be wonderful Ms.Briggs! Yes,I should have protected her from the beam. I should have been the one injured and not her,because if I had put myself between that beam both of us should have gone to the hospital and that means I am helping another student by injuring myself. Brilliant idea Ms.Briggs! I like the idea of it! Injuring yourself to save others! The most great part is that you encourage students to hurt themselves! I will surely spread this wonderful news to the other students!" I gave Ms.Briggs a smile and walked out the door. She stood there frozen like a statute.
